On Sunday, October 19, 2025, Waseda University and the Taiwan Waseda International Network Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding at a ceremony held in a conference room at Waseda University.
The Waseda International Foundation, Taiwan, ROC, was established in 2025 by enthusiastic alumni in Taiwan. The purpose of this agreement is to establish a cooperative relationship between the Foundation and Waseda University in areas such as industry-academia collaboration, talent cultivation, academic research support, and social contribution activities. Referencing the operational model of the Epoch Foundation, which promotes exchange and cooperation between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Taiwanese enterprises, we anticipate that this agreement will serve as the cornerstone for fostering industry-academia collaboration between Taiwanese enterprises and Waseda University.
On the day of the agreement signing, the Taiwan Waseda International Foundation was represented by Chairman Hsü Chie-Li and Director Wu Hsin-Yang. Waseda University was led by President Aiji Tanaka, and was joined by Executive Director Hideyuki Honma (responsible for academic affairs), Director Masaharu Wako (responsible for research and development departments and industry-academia collaboration), Director Masahiko Genma (responsible for international departments and international fundraising), Director of Research and Development Yoshiharu Amano, Administrative Director of Research and Development Hiroyuki Matsumoto, and Administrative Director of the International Department Ichikuni Ouchi for the signing ceremony.
After signing the agreement, both parties discussed future collaboration directions. Through the discussions, in-depth opinions were exchanged regarding the development of cross-border industry-academia cooperation.
Based on this agreement, both parties will commit to promoting the following matters in the future:
- Discussion and promotion of industry-academia collaboration projects
- Training support for employees of Taiwanese companies
- Support for Educational and Research Activities at Waseda University
- Joint Implementation of Social Contribution Activities
- Other activities beneficial to the purpose of this agreement
Through collaboration with the Waseda Taiwan International Foundation, Waseda University will commit to deepening international education, research, and social contributions, and will continue to move forward with its mission of becoming a university that contributes to all humankind.
